The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) has renewed its relationship with Markus van Tilburg, a foreign direct investment (FDI) professional, to run the FCEDA office in Germany and work with European companies considering expansion to the United States.
Van Tilburg is managing director of Global Aldea Consulting in Berlin. He holds master’s degrees in economic geography, political science and economics from the RWTH Aachen University in Germany and from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain.
With exceptional knowledge of corporate location strategies, business development and international expansion processes, he will continue to provide support to European companies planning to establish a presence in Fairfax County.
“Companies that are considering the U.S. want to know how to access business opportunities, and Fairfax County has a powerful message to convey about the kinds of companies that are already here, the industry sectors that are strong here and the market opportunities that are available to them,” van Tilburg said.
The FCEDA opened a continental European office in 2000. More than 400 foreign-owned firms have operations in Fairfax County, including nearly 200 from continental Europe.
Prior to founding Global Aldea, van Tilburg worked in Berlin for two consulting firms, German and U.S.-owned, that worked for business and government clients across the world and also assisted European companies interested in Virginia locations.
He has assisted many corporate clients in implementing global investment strategies and selecting locations for their businesses. He regularly speaks on site-selection matters and FDI at related events, such as the “USA Market Entry” seminars organized by the German American Trade Association.
Victor Hoskins, president and CEO of the FCEDA, noted the importance of having a representative in Europe to work with companies interested in a U.S. presence. “We are selling Fairfax County as a great location for these companies, and having this representation allows us to get closer to the companies and build relationships that will help them be successful,” he said.
Business growth and innovation helps Fairfax County fund the nation’s top-rated school system and other public services that contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the- art telecommunications infrastructure, access to global markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a vibrant investment capital community and a highly skilled, well-educated workforce.
